Rob Brydon left fans in awe on Monday night as he brought out a Gavin and Stacey star for an on-stage duet during his Christmas stage show.

The actor, 59, who plays Uncle Bryn in the hit comedy series, had been entertaining fans with his show Rob Brydon & His Fabulous Band: A Festive Night Of Songs & Laughter at London’s Lyceum Theatre.

But the star stepped it up a gear when he later introduced Ruth Jones, 58, who came out in character as the hilarious Nessa Jenkins – much to the delight of the surprised audience.

Nessa, dressed in her trademark black leather waistcoat, proceeded to utter her famous catchphrase ‘what’s occurring’ as she sauntered over to her co-star.

The pair then burst into a rendition of Baby, It’s Cold Outside with both staying in character throughout.

The humorous song saw the duo sing adapted lyrics making reference to the popular show, with Nessa piping up with comments such as ‘Tidy’ and Don’t Mess With Me’.

Rob and Ruth were met with a rapturous applause from the crowd as they finished their song, with the pair remaining in character for an exchange afterwards.

Nessa told Bryn: ‘I’m not gonna lie, that song makes me very uncomfortable’.

To which Bryn replied: ‘Yes yes it’s OK, because the way we did it, YOU were the sexual predator!’

Nessa responded: ‘I know, I found the whole thing very triggering, I think we should sing something else.’

It comes after Strictly Come Dancing gave viewers an early Christmas treat with a world exclusive first look at the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special.

The hit series is returning to our screens this December for what’s being dubbed the final episode ever.

BBC viewers got a sneak peek of the highly anticipated special during the finale, which eventually saw Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell crowned the winners.

Set to air on Christmas Day, the new episode will pick up from the dramatic cliffhanger of the 2019 special, which saw Nessa on one knee, proposing to Smithy.

The 2019 episode, which ended with Nessa’s surprise proposal, became the most-watched TV comedy show since Only Fools and Horses in 2002.

Actress Ruth Jones made an appearance during the Strictly final as Nessa to read out the terms and conditions to viewers, all while delivering some classic one-liners.

During her appearance on the BBC show, she was playfully heckled with her iconic catchphrase ‘What’s occurring?’ to which she quickly fired back: ‘Oh, you don’t think I hear that every day?!’

The trailer opens with Stacey (Joanna Page) chatting on the phone to her husband Gavin (Mathew Horne) while he’s at work, bringing back memories of their early days together in the 2000s.

‘Oh, I’m absolutely buzzing, I am. A whole weekend away, just me and you!’ Stacey says excitedly.

‘Well, yeah, except it’s not just me and you, is it?’ Gavin replies, just before some more familiar characters make their entrances.

In comes Smithy (James Corden), cheekily nicknaming Gavin ‘Gaviscon,’ while Pam (Alison Steadman) and Mick (Larry Lamb) bustle about preparing the table for a festive family feast.

Pam, as always, has her rollers in and is dressed in pink, flapping around as husband ‘Michael’ takes a more laid-back approach, strolling leisurely around the house.

It doesn’t take long for the drama to kick in, with Nessa offering a stern warning to her son, Neil the Baby (played by the same actor as the original newborn).

‘Pass me those nunchucks,’ she says to Stacey, proving she’s still the no-nonsense mum, while Neil sports a mischievous grin.

Meanwhile, Gwen (Melanie Walters) raises the infamous fishing trip with Bryn (Rob Brydon) and Jason (Robert Wilfort), accusing them of ‘tearing the family apart.’

Gavin and Stacey will air on Christmas Day on BBC One, picking up from the 2019 cliffhanger

Could this finally be the moment we learn what really happened all those years ago?

Fans of Pete (Adrian Scarborough) and Dawn (Julia Davis) will also be pleased, as the couple are back to their usual bickering.

In one scene, Dawn calls Pete a ‘despicable little rat,’ proving they’re as fiery as ever.

However, the drama soon fizzles out, and the families are seen having a wild, drunken dance-off in Pam and Mick’s living room.

Smithy and Nessa get up close and personal, with some seriously flirtatious moves thrown in.

Does this mean Smithy actually say yes to Nessa’s proposal back in 2019? It looks like we might finally get some answers this Christmas.
