Adult sea elephants can reach six meters in length.

As reported at the National Antarctic Scientific Center, a video made by the 30th UAE Zoya Zvyka – a young male of a sea elephant, who has not yet been involved in reproduction. It is said that such individuals often travel to Galindez, but in general, these animals do not live in the area of ”Academician Vernadskaya” station. Most of their population lives in the islands of subantarctic.
“Sometimes young elephants float here and cling to the island. One of them even stuck in a boat of Ukrainian polarists on the pier and slept there for a few days!”, – said in the center.
Scientists say that sea elephants are the largest among the dock. Adult males can reach 5-6 meters in length and gain weight up to 5 tons. Due to such a large size, the obese shape of the body and the “trunk” in males (a leather sac on the nose they blow in an aggressive state) of these seals and called elephants.
These interesting animals spend about 80% of their lives in the water, in search of food. The prey dives to a depth of 400-1000 meters, but can also dive for 2400 meters. The giants hunt there on squid and fish, tracking them with their giant black eyes.
On the land of sea elephants, in particular, for the period of reproduction, forming coastal beds.
