The leader of Italy can discuss the idea of a new world order with the head of the People’s Republic of China, the journalists found out.
It is expected that during a series of strategic discussions, the Italian leader will call on his Chinese counterpart to take an active position as a mediator in the two most important global conflicts – the war in Ukraine and the escalation of tensions in the Middle East, writes Euractiv with reference to Corriere della Sera.
Journalists added that Mattarella in China intends to strengthen diplomatic ties and gain support for a joint approach to solving global problems.
According to Italian diplomatic sources, the participation of the PRC could be crucial as the international community looks for ways to establish peace in regions where traditional Western influence has reached an impasse.
Corriere della Sera writes that the Italian leader will discuss another important issue with the Chinese leader:
“Mattarella will also discuss with Xi the idea of a new world order with China, Russia and the countries of the Global South as an alternative to the US-dominated Western system presented by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the recent BRICS summit in Kazan.”
The war in Ukraine is in the spotlight – news worth knowingIn the spring, China and Brazil proposed their “peace plan” for Ukraine. The states called for the resumption of direct dialogue between Kyiv and Moscow, but did not demand the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukrainian soil.
The Ukrainian authorities rejected the Sino-Brazilian “peace plan”. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claimed that the only viable format for stabilizing the situation in Ukraine is a peace summit initiated by Kyiv. The President’s Office said that the second peace summit will take place after the US presidential elections. The elections in the USA have already taken place, the Republican Donald Trump was elected president.
