Refund of UAH 3.4 million for not obstructing reconstruction in Sumy Oblast: there is a new suspect

One of the former regional heads of the Strategic Investigations Department in Sumy Oblast was informed of the suspicion of aiding and abetting a People’s Deputy in obtaining an unlawful benefit in a particularly large amount. About this UNN reports with reference to SAP.

“On December 20, 2024, the SAP and NABU informed about the suspicion of a person who, at the time of committing the incriminated actions, held the position of acting deputy head of the Department of Criminal Investigation of the National Police of Ukraine, of complicity in a completed attempt to obtain an illegal benefit in a particularly large amount” , – the message says.

Actions of a person are qualified under part. 5th century 27, ch. 2 Art. 15, ch. 4 Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

It is reported that as part of the pre-trial investigation, it was established that the people’s deputy demanded 14% of the amount of funds allocated for the repair of the water pipe in the Okhtyr district of the Sumy region: of which 10% was assigned to him personally and 4% to the local law enforcement officers, who were not supposed to pay for it obstacles in the development of allocated funds. According to the investigation, it is about UAH 3.4 million.

In the course of the further investigation, it became clear that from May to July 2024, the said People’s Deputy was assisted by the acting deputy head of the Department of Criminal Investigation of the National Police of Ukraine – former head of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Sumy region. Thus, the law enforcement officer had to ensure the unhindered transfer of funds from the contractor to the head of the village council with the involvement of law enforcement officers subordinate to him, whose involvement is currently being established. The funds were allocated to the People’s Deputy of Ukraine and law enforcement agencies.

NABU and SAP informed People’s Deputy from the “Servant of the People” faction Mykola Zadorozhny about the suspicion. According to the law enforcement officers, the people’s representative demanded an illegal benefit for not obstructing the repair works of infrastructure facilities in Sumy Oblast.

Subsequently, Mykola Zadorozhnyi was expelled from the party.
