Red Bull expresses his disagreement with Ferstappen’s fine at start

The team believes that the Dutchman had no other choice”, – WRITE: Sport.ua

Team leader Red Bull Christian Horner expressed disagreement with the decision of the stewards to punish Max Ferstappen with a five-second fine during the Grand Prix of Saudi Arabia.

The current World Champion left the boundaries of the highway in the first turns after the start, ahead of Oscar Pastri. The incident occurred at the entrance to the first Shicanik, when the Australian left the place and went to the inner trajectory next to Red Bull.

Ferstappen cut the chicken, believing that he was forced to do so in order to avoid collision. As a result, the steward was acknowledged that the Dutchman received an advantage outside the highway, and imposed a fine on him, which, according to Horner, cost the victory riders.

The first turn, the racing incident, two cars nearby. I don’t know where he had to go. At this point, he could not just disappear, – said Horner.

The leader Red Bull also commented on the assumption that the team should order Ferstapppen to return the position in order to avoid punishment.

No, we decided to do nothing. Yes, returning a position is a safer option. But then you just give the lead. We didn’t think something was wrong, ”he said.

According to Horner, the situation was on the verge:

Oscar started well, Max – medium. They were very close to each other. According to the stewards report, the front wheel of the opponent should be at least at the level of the mirror. It was very, very close.
