Transcarpathia recorded record snowfalls over the past 20 years. Due to the difficult weather conditions, residents of the region are recommended to switch to the remote format of education and work, except for critical infrastructure.
According to the hydrometeorological center, almost half a month’s worth of precipitation fell in the region during three days.
Storm warnings are currently in effect for significantly lower temperatures, ice formation and avalanche danger. Night frosts of up to -16 °C are forecast until at least January 14, after which a gradual stabilization of the weather is expected.
In this regard, the regional commission on TEB and National Emergency recommended the local self-government bodies to extend the winter vacation in schools until January 19 or to transfer the educational process to a remote format.
At the same time, educational institutions will work full-time in 12 territorial communities of the region. These are Vynogradivska, Volovetska, Nelipinska, Velikobereznska, Velikodobronska, Uzhhorodska, Vyshkivska, Onokivska, Dovzhanska, Zarichanska, Keretskivska, and Irshava communities.
Regular groups for children whose parents are involved in work will work in kindergartens in another 52 communities. Some vocational schools, colleges and institutions of higher education are on vacation until February 2, others are recommended to continue their studies online.
The commission also advised to transfer to the remote mode the work of enterprises, institutions and organizations whose activities do not belong to critical infrastructure and can be carried out remotely in the conditions of martial law.
