Putin plans to place new military bases in Belarus – Agreement

According to the agreement, Minsk allows the deployment of Russian military bases and units in its territory. At the same time, the contract is at least 10 years, and it cannot be canceled earlier than this period.

The document was signed on December 6, 2024 in Minsk during a meeting of the Higher State Council with the participation of Alexander Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin. After that, a representative of the organization of the former Belarusian security forces Belpol Matthew Kuprechik at hearings at the Helsinki Commission of the United States warned that the agreement would allow Moscow to increase military presence in Belarus.

According to the text of the contract published on February 5, the document provides not only the so -called “nuclear umbrella “for Belarus and protection of its constitutional order, but also actual militarization of the country. Article 5 of the Agreement directly indicates the possibility of placement of Russian military objects and formations.
