Russian leader Vladimir Putin has refused ceasefire repeatedly, and every day gives reasons for new sanctions against Russia, said President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“All this (strikes of the Russian Federation in Kiev, Odessa, Sumy, Kharkiv – Red) need a reaction – a rigid reaction of the United States of America, the reaction of Europe, the reaction of all in the world who wants to end the war. Putin has abandoned the ceasefire repeatedly. It gives him anything except that he takes his life every day. Every day gives reasons for new sanctions against Russia, every day proves that without pressure on Russia the war will continue, ”he said in his video.

Zelensky once again stressed that Ukraine is ready for any form of diplomacy that will result.

“We are ready for all steps that can guarantee real safety. It is Russia that is not ready for anything. The next week should be a time of activity for a new pressure on Russia, that is, for the sake of peace, ”the President added.

On May 19, US President Donald Trump spent some telephone conversations with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky with some European leaders. After that, Trump stated that negotiations between Russia and Ukraine “on ceasefire and, more importantly, about the termination of the war” will begin “immediately”.

After a telephone conversation with Trump, Putin told reporters on May 19 that Russia and Ukraine “should find compromises that arrange both sides.” According to him, “the Russian Federation is ready to work with Kiev on a memorandum about a future peace treaty.”

Zelensky stated the next day that “Ukraine is ready for any negotiation format that will produce the result”, but “if Russia will continue to put forward unrealistic conditions and undermine possible results, there should be strict consequences.”

So far, Russia has not given any signs that it is ready to make any significant compromise. She often signaled the opposite, repeating the long stated positions that Ukraine calls unacceptable.
