– I say this to all foreign coaches and players. You have to be a brave person to come to Ukraine to live and work after the start of a full-scale invasion. How did you react to Shakhtar’s offer?
– Last year, I stopped working at my previous football club. The head coach left, I stayed for another two weeks while they were looking for a new coach. I said that I wanted to continue working, but I was warned that a new coach would come. And probably in two weeks I will have to leave.
It was Monday, so I went home and said that now I have a few months of rest. And the next day I received a call from Mister. He said that he still needs me for “yesterday”. Decisions had to be made immediately. Pushych said that sometimes you don’t have to think a lot, but you just have to say yes.
And this really convinced me. Already on Wednesday, I was driving with my wife to Antwerp for the Miners match in the Champions League. I took my suitcase with me. In the evening, I spoke with the sports director Dario Srnaya, and then we signed the contract. Then everything was very fast, and I didn’t have time to really think.
My whole family also says that you must be brave to accept this offer. They supported me. They said: “Okay, let’s try.”
– Did you Google any information about Ukraine when you received the offer?
– No, I just agreed to work at Shakhtar. I am such a guy that I want to know all the details and nuances, but Mister encouraged me to accept the invitation with one phone call. “Sometimes you don’t have to ask too many questions, but just do it,” said the specialist.
