Details: Prosecutor Mykola Shelest asked the court to extend Gniezdilov’s pretrial detention until March 15, without the right to post bail. In particular, he believes that a serviceman can hide from the investigation and the court.

In turn, Gnezdilova’s lawyer, Anastasia Burkovska, asked the court to soften the preventive measure, in particular, to replace detention with house arrest.

Gnezdilov himself said that he reminded the judge of his consent to return to the military unit, in which, according to him, they agreed to his return to service.

He also stated that he had no intention of evading service, but wanted to draw attention to the problem of voluntary desertion of a unit in the army.

Direct speech of Gnezdilov: “At first, we received consent to return (to the military unit – ed.). Now, for some reason, we have received a refusal to return. It seems that they are trying to delay the trial as much as possible and show: dear, this will happen to all of you.”

Details: The next court session was scheduled for January 10. The case will be heard in Dnipro, since the crime was committed there. So Hnezdilov should be escorted to the Dnipro.

Prehistory:

  • On September 21, the soldier wrote on Facebook that he voluntarily left the unit to draw attention to the need to establish terms of service for the mobilized. This act caused an ambiguous reaction in society, opinions on this matter were divided.
  • In the 56th separate motorized infantry brigade, where Gnezdilov serves, an official investigation was ordered and it was announced that the soldier “committed actions that contain signs of a criminal offense.”
  • On September 23, the Donetsk specialized prosecutor’s office in the field of defense of the Eastern region, based on the fact of publications in the mass media, opened criminal proceedings regarding the desertion of a serviceman and commissioned an investigation by the Bureau.
  • On October 9, DBR employees detained Gnezdilov and conducted a search.
  • On November 29, the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv extended Hnezdilov’s detention until January 15 without the right to bail.
