Details: In his speech in New York, the Foreign Minister of Paulo Ranzel stated that “Portugal supports the decision to create two states as the only way to a just and prolonged peace.”

“Today, the Portuguese state officially recognizes the state of Palestine,” Ranzhel said, stressed that the decision was made with the consent of the President of the Republic and most parties of parliament.
Foreign Minister stressed that Portugal seeks to maintain “peaceful, fruitful and useful relations” with both states and hopes that Israel will “understand our position”.
“It (decision – ed.) Is never accepted against Israel. It is accepted in favor of peace and right of the Palestinian people to self -determination,” he explained.
That preceded: Sunday, Palestine’s statehood was declared by the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. Portugal and nearly ten other countries have to do so in the coming days.
It happened against the background of the worsening of the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Sector after the Israeli offensive and the strike of Israel on Qatar, directed against Hamas leadership.
