The mass media analyzed the financial activities of Ukrainian and foreign companies owned by Poroshenko and found that they are increasing their assets at the expense of unpaid taxes in Ukraine.
“The legalization of assets is carried out through the purchase of state and foreign securities, on which the corresponding interest is accrued. Basically, Poroshenko buys domestic debt bonds – securities issued by the state,” – writes the publication.
The mass media cite the words of experts, in particular Valentyn Gladkykh, about how the scheme works.
“Poroshenko mastered this scheme in order to form his own image of a “philanthropist”, acquiring OVDP at the expense of unpaid taxes to the state. For example, his companies exclude from taxable income the amounts transferred to Poroshenko’s charitable organizations as charitable contributions. At the same time, Poroshenko personally and his charitable the fund systematically buys OVDP bonds, for which the state subsequently pays interest,” the mass media note.
According to experts’ estimates, it is due to the interest accrued by the state on OVDP in the amount of approximately UAH 2.5 billion. Poroshenko’s charitable projects were financed after the full-scale war.
At the same time, the Poroshenko Foundation has the status of a non-profit organization, and its financing is carried out at the expense of natural persons and related business entities with the use of various tax minimization schemes.
However, in January 2024, the fund purchased military OVDP bonds (term of circulation — 693 days, with a nominal yield of 17.8%) for a total amount of UAH 356 million. precisely at the expense of charitable contributions.
This operation was carried out through the International Investment Bank, which is owned by Poroshenko. And the bank received about 1.5 million hryvnias only for the settlement and cash service of this operation. in the form of a commission.
“Therefore, instead of promoting the defense capability and mobilization readiness of the country, the Fund actually conducts economic activities with the aim of obtaining profit,” the publication notes.
And Poroshenko himself last year reflected significant changes in his property status — receiving income in the form of interest.
According to experts in criminal law, such devices have all the signs of a criminal offense – the use of charitable donations for profit – which is punishable by imprisonment for a period of 5 to 7 years with confiscation of property.
It will be recalled that law enforcement officers are investigating new details of Poroshenko’s treason case, which relate to his business in the Russian Federation.
