Details: For more than a week, the fate of these seven candidates was decided in political disputes between the key political groups – the center-right European People’s Party and the Socialists and Democrats.
The impasse halted the vetting process of six executive vice-presidents (Kaia Callas, Raffaele Fitto, Roxana Minzatu, StƩphane Sejournay, Teresa Ribera and Hanna Virkkunen), as well as the Hungarian Oliver Vargheli.
The details of how the dispute was resolved are not disclosed.
Prehistory:
- Hearings of candidates for European commissioners began on November 4 and were supposed to end last week.
- Disputes between the deputies took place, in particular, regarding the candidacies of the Italian Raffaele Fitto, the Hungarian Oliver Vargei, and the Spanish Teresa Ribera.
- The new composition of the European Commission may start work on December 1.
“EvroPravda” talked about how the new composition of the European Commission was prepared in an article Ursula’s 26 “friends”: who will rule in Brussels for the next 5 years and what to expect in Ukraine.
