The accident happened in the early hours of the morning on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway near the Shagam interchange north-east of Lagos, one of the most dangerous roads in the country.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps of Nigeria, the Lexus SUV carrying Joshua collided with a truck parked on the side of the road. According to preliminary data, the SUV was traveling at a speed exceeding the speed limit and was involved in an accident during an overtaking maneuver.
There were 5 people in the car. Two people died as a result of the accident. Two other passengers were not injured. Anthony Joshua was rescued alive and suffered minor injuries. He was taken to the hospital for medical examination and treatment. Law enforcement and emergency services arrived at the scene within minutes of the incident being reported.
The Ogun State Police have confirmed the exact location of the accident, which is a section of the highway in front of a filling station near Shagam Junction. An official investigation has been scheduled to establish all the circumstances of the tragedy.
It is understood that Joshua was on his way from Lagos to the family home. The news of the accident came as a shock to his family. Just a few hours before the accident, the boxer posted a video on social networks, being in a good mood.
The incident happened shortly after the 36-year-old Briton’s high-profile victory over Jake Paul on December 19. Tragic events in Nigeria overshadowed the sporting triumph, taking the lives of two people.
