The participants, divided into three teams, work according to a structured program that includes theoretical classes, training and holding three matches against each other – on December 1, 2 and 3. According to the results of the meeting, the coaching staff headed by Volodymyr Samborskyithe analytical department and the scouting service will carry out a comprehensive assessment of football players. Based on the received data and personal review, the head coach will form a team that will represent Ukraine at the UEFA Development Tournament in Lisbon on December 16-22.
The holding of this NTZ was a logical step within the framework of the Ukrainian Football Association’s systematic work on improving the selection of youth national teams and introducing full transparency in the selection of players. For the most effective launch of this direction, the UAF initiated consultations with leading European specialists – representatives of Italy, Portugal, Germany, Austria, France, etc.
An important stage of the preparatory work was the training camp at the base of the Italian Football Federation in Koverciano. The Ukrainian delegation met with the coordinator of the youth national teams of Italy, Maurizio Vicidi, with whom the peculiarities of selection processes, the principles of formation of national teams and the methodology of training talented players were discussed in detail.
After returning to Ukraine, another working meeting of the head coaches of the youth national teams and the technical director of the UAF was held, at which it was decided to organize a selection tournament for the first time in the youngest age category – U-15. It is based on a model similar to the Italian one, but adapted to Ukrainian realities and the needs of youth football development.
UAF plans that such, but larger selection meetings will become a regular practice and will be held in different age categories.
