The club’s chairman, Peter Griffin, said the stadium was no longer fit for purpose and without a move, the club’s future was in jeopardy. According to the BBC, the Windsor and Maidenhead County Council is ready to approve the construction of a new stadium at Braywick Park, just one mile from the current site.
The new arena will have a capacity of 5,000 spectators, will receive a modern grass surface and will be part of a sports cluster with an ecological bias – using renewable energy, water recycling and improving biodiversity. The project is still at an early stage, but has already been presented to the public.

“York Road is a great historic stadium but it is no longer suitable for our purposes. We want to ensure the club’s future for the next 150 years,” Griffin emphasized.
The club plans to get a lease for 999 years and pay the council £2.5 million. The club received a financial break in 2024 – £4 million thanks to interest from the transfer of defender Max Kilman to West Ham.
Maidenhead United play in the National League South, are in the middle of the standings and keep their chances for the play-offs. Management emphasizes: the move is necessary to preserve the club and its role in the life of the city.
