These capsules are located at court level in two corners of the arena. It can accommodate up to four team members of each tennis player. Coaches can choose to sit in their usual place or sit in a capsule.
In the capsules, coaches will be able to receive match statistics in real time, and a cooling mechanism is provided for comfort. From 2025, coaching is officially allowed – coaches are allowed to talk to players when they are on the same side of the court.
The director of the Australian Open spoke about the newly introduced capsules Craig Tiley:
“We tested the capsules this week and some coaches were skeptical at first but then said it was great. I think most teams would prefer to sit on the court. You can maintain eye contact with your player after each draw. When a player approaches to take a towel, you can exchange a few words, that is, if you wish, you can prompt something after almost every draw.”
Tiley also wants the players’ coaches to come with them to press conferences more often.
Australian Open 2025 will be held on the Melbourne courts from January 12 to 26. On the first day of the game, two matches with the participation of Ukrainian women are scheduled: on Sunday, Marta Kostyuk and Yulia Starodubtseva will play.
