Attacker “Barcelona” and national team of Spain Lamine Yamal told about an unusual object in his house – a figurine of a kaganer with his own image. It is a traditional Catalan Christmas figurine depicting a person crouching in a characteristic pose. The 18-year-old football player told about this in the first video on his personal YouTube channel.

Yamal showed the figure during a tour of the house, from which he is now leaving after purchasing the former mansion of Gerard Pique. According to the player, kaganer is the favorite thing of his three-year-old brother Kane. The statuette sits on a shelf in the living room next to the TV, just below the Copa del Rey trophy won last season.

For the inhabitants of Catalonia, the caganer is not a joke, but an important element of Christmas culture. It is believed that the absence of this figurine in the house can bring bad luck, and the image itself symbolizes humor, joy and the combination of the divine and the earthly. Traditionally, the kaganer is hidden in the Christmas nativity scene, and the guests have to find it.

Since the 1990s, kaganeras in the guise of famous personalities have become popular in Catalonia. At the Barcelona Christmas markets, you can find figurines of Barca players. According to Caganer co-owner Mark Alos, such models sold particularly well during the era of Ronaldinho and Lionel Messi. Currently, the collection includes the kaganeras of Yamal, Pedri, Fermin Lopez, Pau Kubarsi, as well as head coach Hansi Flick.

Yamal himself, unlike some football players of the past, took this tradition calmly. In Catalonia, it is considered an honor to be part of such a collection, not an occasion for resentment.
