This opinion was expressed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of France, Jean-Noel Barro, in an interview with La Tribune Dimanche.
“We are happy to welcome the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, to Paris on December 1 for negotiations. Peace is achievable, provided that Putin abandons his vain hope of restoring the Soviet empire, starting with the subjugation of Ukraine. Ukraine belongs to the Ukrainians and only to them,” the French minister affirmed.
He believes that Putin has reasons to take seriously the peace document that Ukraine and its allies finalized at the Geneva talks. In particular, he noted that Putin’s army cannot achieve success on the battlefield, despite propaganda statements.
Barro also warned that if the Russian authorities do not agree to a peace plan and an end to the war against Ukraine, they will be forced to prepare for new sanctions from the European Union.
Trump’s “peace plan” for UkraineThe “peace plan” drawn up with the participation of the Russians caused a stormy reaction from the Europeans. They did not choose diplomatic expressions and said that this is not a plan, but a list of Putin’s wishes, and the author of this plan, the special representative of the US President Donald Trump, Steve Witkoff, was advised to consult a psychiatrist.
The Ukrainian authorities were more cautious and declared that they were ready to work with the document. So, this week the Ukrainian and American delegations held the first consultations regarding this “peace plan”.
