Dexter Morgan is a serial killer in training in the new trailer for the origin story series Dexter: Original Sin.

The prequel series stars Patrick Gibson as young Dexter and Michael C. Hall as his inner voice. The show is set in 1991 Miami and follows Dexter “as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry (Christian Slater), he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement’s radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.”

In the trailer, Slater tells Gibson, “You got to blend in. One wrong move, you ruin your life, your sister’s, mine.” He responds, “This is who I am, who I need to be. Learning my code was just the beginning, bringing it to life for the first time is a whole new story.”

Dexter: Original Sin also stars Molly Brown, Christina Milian, James Martinez, Alex Shimizu, Reno Wilson, Patrick Dempsey and special guest star Sarah Michelle Gellar.

The 10-episode drama was executive produced by Clyde Phillips and produced by Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios. Executive producers also include Scott Reynolds, Hall, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez and Lilly Burns, with the series being produced by Robert Lloyd Lewis.

Dexter: Original Sin starts streaming on Dec. 13 for subscribers with the Paramount+ with Showtime plan before making its on-air debut on Dec. 15.
