German Chancellor Olaf Soltz cast his voice in early elections to the Bundestag, which is held on Sunday, February 23, at the polling station in Potsdam, DW reports.
It is noted that Scholz came to the polling station in Potsdam in Brandenburg with his wife. Here is the constituency of the current chancellor, where in the last elections to the Bundestag in 2021 he received 34 percent of the vote. Leaving the polling station, Scholz lifted his thumb up, the newspaper writes.

The voting was also attended by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeyer. While at the polling station in Berlin, he urged all German citizens to participate in the vote.
“Take advantage of your suffrage, go to choose, take part in determining the future of our country and choose, realizing that your voice can become decisive, ”the German president said.
Friedrich Merz from the Christian Democratic Union, which is the most likely candidate for replacement of Chancellor Scholz, voted at the polling station in Ansberg.

In Lower Saxony, 13.8% of voters voted for the first two hours of the Federal Elections. According to the election commission, as of 10:00 am, the turnout was a little lower than in 2021, when it was 14.3% at the same time, Spiegel writes.
The vote of the mail is not taken into account, but the election commission did not reveal how many citizens of six million voters have applied for ballots to vote by mail.
During the preliminary elections in 2021, the total turnout in Lower Saxony was 74.7%, which was lower than the average in the country – 76.4%.
On Sunday, February 23, early parliamentary elections were held in Germany after the collapse of the government coalition led by Olaf Solz. The election is expected to win the party of the Christian Democratic Union, which was previously headed by Angela Merkel. Its present leader Friedrich Merz is likely to become a new Chancellor of Germany – if she can negotiate with other forces about the government coalition.
Today’s elections will be decisive for Germany not only because Olaf Soltz will most likely lose the post of chancellor.
According to sociologists, the country expects another stunning result – the second place of the far -right party alternative to Germany (ADN, AFD), which will be the greatest success in the history of this party and the right forces in Germany since the Second World War.
