Among the Belarusian political prisoners pardoned by Minsk the day before, there are those who would like to stay in Ukraine.

This was announced on December 14 by dismissed oppositionist Maria Kolesnikova during a press conference, Hromadske writes.

Kolesnikova noted that she herself does not plan to stay in Ukraine, but she knows about the wishes of a number of other freed Belarusians.

“I know for sure, we discussed it literally a few hours ago with the Belarusians who are here now, that there are people who would very much like to stay in Ukraine,” she said.

Kolesnikova added that she will raise this issue in order to help these people get the opportunity to stay, although the procedures for this are still unknown.

It will be recalled that on December 13, Belarus announced the release of 123 political prisoners, noting that this happened “within the framework of agreements with the US president and at his request” in connection with the lifting of American sanctions.

Belarus handed over 114 civilians to Ukraine as part of a large-scale humanitarian measure. The operation was coordinated directly on the spot by the head of the GUR Kyrylo Budanov.
