At a briefing at the press center of the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center on June 27, the All -Ukrainian NGO “Union of Archaeologists of Ukraine” (NGO “SAU”) with the support of the Canadian Foundation for the support of local initiatives presented the project of a virtual museum in the subway “Our basis”.

This was stated in the organization’s statement.

The purpose of the initiative is to promote Ukrainian history and culture, turning the stations of the subway and shelter into enlightenment and national stability in a full -scale war.

The project “Our foundation” creates a virtual “underground museum”, which makes the cultural heritage visible, accessible and at the same time protected. In the conditions where the subway became a shelter for millions of Ukrainians, “our foundation” transforms this space from the place of physical safety into a source of new knowledge, space for training, enlightenment and reflection.

The Project “Our foundation” is a public representation of the history and culture of Ukraine. It is a response to the systemic destruction and theft of Russia’s objects of Ukrainian cultural heritage in order to destroy historical gravity and memory, emphasizing that knowledge of the past is part of national security and sustainability.

Concept and implementation

Our foundation is a virtual museum with a binding to the stations of the Ukrainian Metro in Kiev, Kharkiv, Dnipro, as well as to public locations of Lviv, where the metropolitan is part of the city legend. The project involves the placement of QR code information posters at the metro stations leading to an extended online platform. After passing the QR code, passengers receive access to a virtual exhibition dedicated to archeology and the history of the area where they are. Each object has a short story, photos, map and descriptions of personalities that reveal the depth of the city’s history and its “basis”. Posters with QR codes are already available at 20 stations of the Kiev Metro, allowing people to learn about the history of the land they stand, even in breaks between anxiety.

“The project is an example of an innovative approach to preserving and promoting cultural heritage in war. Knowledge of the past is an element of cultural security and part of our national stability. This is what became the starting point for our project. “Our foundation” is a public representation of the inheritance, which we must make visible, accessible and, at the same time, protected, ” – said Yuri Puower, author of the idea and head of the project, deputy chairman of the SAU NGO.

According to Diayan Tisndall, representatives of the Embassy of Canada in Ukraine: “Cultural heritage is not just about preserving the past, it is about the formation of the future. Canada is very proud that with the help of the Canadian Fund for supporting local initiatives can contribute to the implementation of projects, such as “our foundation” and to help Ukraine promote cultural initiatives. It also helps to strengthen communication in communities and experience all the difficulties of war for Ukrainians – very creatively, thoughtfully, supporting each other. ”

Anna Yanenko, the co -coordinator of the project, the member of the board of the SAU NGO tells about the concept and concept of the project: “Our foundation is a game of words, it is very important, because the soil is what we stand on, what our identity stands on and, in fact, it is. The idea of turning the shelter space is not just physically, but a space where you can learn even more about your roots and understand why Russia wants to destroy you. And, perhaps, this is the basic idea of this project-to give everyone this opportunity to learn more about yourself, about your place, about the space in which you are-it is about self -ness, about your “Ukrainian” in the end. “

Oksana Nikoforuk, the head of the press service of KP “Kyiv Metro” about cooperation with the project: “We always pick up all socially important topics. The subway is a safety place, and when people come to cover, they should also receive something interesting, useful, informative. The peculiarity of this project is that it does not concentrate at one station, we spread the posters about 20 stations to different stations on all branches to travel the subway, studied these stories, and at the future exhibition at the Golden Gate station was able to see everything in a wide format. “

Kateryna Chueva, an expert on museum and cultural heritage, as well as Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine in 2021-2023, emphasizes the importance of “Our foundation” as a means of promoting knowledge and changing the attitude of society to cultural heritage: Significant destruction.

The organizers invite everyone to join the project, look for information online on the resources of the Archaeologists of Ukraine, the project websites and visit the virtual museum directly at the metro stations.
