Virgil Ortiz looked too good. He is ready for any opponent
Many had doubts before the match. Too much in the US. Everyone who actively followed Lubin’s career saw that he was in perfect order recently: quite fast, accurate, smart. Everything about him is good and sufficient for a competitive meeting with Ortiz.
But there were questions about Virgil. If he passed Israel Madrimov calmly, it was very difficult with Serhii Bohachuk. There are knockdowns and a lot of extra missed shots. Not easy.
Against this background, the counter-attacking Lubin looked like a fighter who creates problems for an aggressive, offensive opponent who is always open to blows.
We didn’t see any of that in the ring. Ortiz did not open to blows. Lubin could not keep up with him. Neither working as number two, nor accuracy, nor speed helped. The latter was clearly not enough against this opponent.
It all ended so quickly that one thing can be said: Virgil Ortiz destroyed his opponent. In the literal sense, he did not show anything. He was always ahead, he even had time to counterattack Lubin. And already in the 2nd round he caught up with his opponent and beat him on the ropes. In fact, it was a standing knockout.
What now? Virgil Ortiz needs big challenges. He is already ready for them, and this fight is only confirmation. There is nowhere to drag, he should be brought to championship and monetary confrontations in a new category for him.
However, it is not the champion who is most ready to meet Ortiz, but Jaron Ennis. The former unified champion of the previous category and boxer who, when he arrived at the first intermediate, declared that this was his division.
The fight is perfect. Golden Boy and Matchroom have already talked about meeting. The fighters even met in the ring after Ortiz’s victory over Lubin and promised to make a deal.
This is all talk, of course. They can refuse 10 more times and change their mind 20 times. However, now the situation is quite favorable for both.
Both boxers won the previous fights early at the start of the meetings – Ennis completely smashed Lima in the 1st 3 minutes. At the same time, it is unclear whether Jaron will feel comfortable in the new weight class against a fighter who can fight back. Unlike Ortiz, his potential opponent had only one and not a full round at the new weight. And Virgil passed both Serhii Bogachuk and Israel Madrimov. And even Lubina.

In the duel of looks after Lubin, he looked even bigger than his opponent. He is taller, he has longer arms. And if necessary, he can weigh more on the day of the match. And all this is added to the speed of the hands, the power of the blow and other moments that are in the arsenal of Ennis.
And the main thing: they are stylistically both comfortable and uncomfortable for each other.
Counter puncher Ennis likes to be picked on. However, there should not be too much activity here either, because you can get lost in the action and miss a shot. And Ortiz just knows how to create such comprehensive pressure that there is no way to escape from it.
It is better for Virgil to press the opponent. The same Bogachuk even forced him to retreat, and Ortiz did not look very good. However, at the same time, it is important that, going forward, he opens himself up to counterattacks. And this is the main weapon of Ennis, who is just waiting to insert a quick, instant blow into the opponent’s head. Or in the body.
The match is perfect. And the timing is great too. And there are agreements. However, in modern boxing, not everything turns out the way the fighters want. And even less often in the way that the fans like. Therefore, it is too early to look ahead, and we will not hurry
