Zelensky added that Orban has “no mandate for negotiations.”
“His relations with Putin are too warm to put Putin in his place,” the president believes.
He added that the proposals raised by the Hungarian prime minister “are more like political PR.”
“I don’t know what the Hungarian side is proposing, except that it sounds somehow festive – ‘Christmas exchange’. We are not happy at all… Nothing can be discussed and decided without Ukraine,” the head of state emphasized.
The tense relationship between Kyiv and Budapest escalated after Viktor Orbán called Vladimir Putin last week.
Afterward, Orbán said he had offered Ukraine a Christmas ceasefire and a large-scale exchange of prisoners of war, but President Volodymyr Zelenskyi allegedly rejected the idea.
Then the Ukrainian president expressed hope that Orban “will not at least call Assad in Moscow to listen to his one-hour lectures.”
