The European Union will continue to support the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, in particular before the illegal annexation of Crimea and a full -scale invasion of the Russian Federation.
This is stated in a document that received support of 26 EU Member States except Hungary.
“From the very beginning, the European Union supported Ukraine when it exercises its inalienable right to self -defense against the full -scale aggressive war of Russia, and it will continue to support Ukraine and its people. The European Council confirms its constant and unwavering support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, ”EU leaders said.
Hungary Prime Minister Viktor Orban has blocked the communique, so the statement will not be included in the official conclusions of the summit, but will be contained in the annexes as “resolutely supported by 26 Member States.”
Earlier, the Hungarian Prime Minister informed the President of the European Council about such intention through a letter.

On March 6, European Council leaders at the European Council in Brussels supported the European Commission Plan to strengthen EU defense, including re -equipment initiative.
In particular, the leaders of 27 European Union countries supported the initiative of the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Liaan to strengthen the EU defense capacity within the framework of the Rearm Europe program (Rearm Europe).
They also called on the EU Council to consider urgently to attract 150 billion euros of credit funds to purchase weapons.
