The World Boxing Council (WBC) has officially declared the lightweight title vacant.

The American was stripped of his championship belt Shakur Stevensonwho decided to focus on performances in a different category. Stevenson previously defeated Teofimo Lopez and won The Ring and WBO featherweight belts, after which he did not defend the WBC lightweight title. Shakur has held this belt since November 2023 and managed to make three successful defenses.

Currently, the status of the WBC interim lightweight champion is held by the undefeated Cuban Hadier Herrera, who is one of the main contenders for the full title.
