As a result of the Russian shelling, the main power line of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant was damaged, which again found itself on the verge of blackout. This was reported by NEC Ukrenergo on Saturday, November 16.

Currently, the ZNPP is powered by a backup line. Repair crews have identified the location of the damage and are carrying out emergency restoration work, Ukrenergo added.

The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine explained that currently the ZNPP is connected to the Ukrainian power system by only one power transmission line. In the event of its shutdown, another blackout will occur at the NPP, which is a serious violation of the conditions of safe operation and threatens the development of an accident.

The situation at Zaporizhzhya NPP is the most important thing

The Zaporizhzhia NPP has been under Russian occupation since March 4, 2022. All six reactors were put into cold shutdown mode.

As a result of Russian shelling, the station’s power supply is systematically disrupted.

On October 1, the Russian Federation attacked the substation, causing the Zaporizhia NPP to be on the verge of blackout. Electricity supply to the ZNPP was restored only on October 3.

On October 21, ZANP was on the verge of blackout for the second time in a month. As a result of the Russian shelling, one of the two power transmission lines connecting the ZANP with the unified energy system of Ukraine was disconnected. The operation of the high-voltage line was resumed on October 22.

On November 14, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs threatened to stop the activities of the IAEA mission at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant due to the statements of the general director, Raphael Grossi, regarding the war in Ukraine. Energoatom called the threats an act of nuclear terrorism.
