On the eve of winter, Russia is preparing strikes on critical nuclear energy facilities of Ukraine, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiga, referring to Ukrainian intelligence data.

“In particular, we are talking about open distribution devices of nuclear plants and transmission substations, which are critical for the safe operation of nuclear energy. Damage to these objects creates a high risk of a nuclear incident that will have global consequences,” he wrote on the social network Kh.

According to him, the Ukrainian special services have already passed this information on to their partners, and the IAEA has also been informed.

Russia, whose military occupied the Ukrainian Zaporizhzhya NPP, has not yet commented on this statement by Kyiv.

From October 2022, the forces of the Russian Federation regularly attack the objects of the Crimean infrastructure. Because of these attacks, blackout schedules are being implemented, and Ukraine is importing electricity to compensate for the power shortage.

According to the Ministry of Energy, in total, the Russian Federation struck more than a thousand objects of the Ukrainian energy infrastructure, this year alone 9 GW of generating capacity was lost due to the strikes.
