During her visit to New York to participate in the events of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska received the Unlock Big Change award from the global charity Theirworld.
This award was given to the first lady for her dedication to the education and welfare of children in Ukraine.
“But I am forwarding this honorable mention to all educators and students, all volunteers, patrons and other figures – in short, to all those who make education in Ukraine possible every day. To everyone who gives back to our children their legitimate right to development,” said the President’s wife.
Traditionally, this award recognizes people who demonstrate courage and leadership in the fight for the right of every child to education, protection of the rights of girls and women, or making the impossible a reality.
In particular, it was awarded to the first woman – Director General of the World Trade Organization, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, as well as the Minister of Education of Lebanon – for the fact that 400,000 Syrian refugees were able to study in schools.
Among the activists of the Theirworld organization is Grassa Machel, a fighter for the independence of Mozambique and Melinda Gates for gender equality.
