WBC, WBO and WBA heavyweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk (23–0, 14 KOs) recalled a time when he was having a hard time in the ring:

“Once I sparred with the son of my coach Serhii. He was my first sparring partner and he beat me hard. In the face, body and liver. It lasted about 45 minutes. I don’t even remember how much. Maybe an hour.

I said, ‘That’s enough, coach. I don’t have the strength anymore.” The coach replied: “No, go on. I said go on!”. During this sparring session, I said to Serhiy (the coach’s son – note): “Hit me in the face and I will fall. The main thing is to stop it.” At that moment, my heart hurt very much.

It was probably the worst moment in the ring. Although it was not a ring, but a special hall. Not even professional. We had nothing then, we did everything ourselves. There were only gloves,” Usyk shared his memories.

Usyk's potential opponent will get a chance to fight for the WBO title
