The city of Okhtyrka in the Sumy region was included in the rating of Ukrainian cities with the greatest potential to become “cities of the future”.

This was announced by the Okhtyr City Council.

The rating was prepared by experts of the Urban Reform School educational platform, evaluating the resilience of communities and the ability to innovate. Together with Okhtyrka, Kharkiv, Lutsk, Vinnytsia and Oleksandria were included in the list.

Experts noted that Okhtyrka, which was one of the first to be hit during a full-scale invasion and received the status of a hero city, quickly moved from survival to strategic development planning.

A key example was the Okhtyrka Urban Vision initiative — a spatial development project aimed at creating an inclusive, ecological and comfortable urban environment with the active involvement of the community.

Experts assessed cities for their human, cultural, natural and spatial potential, emphasizing that active residents shape a new development trajectory. In their opinion, the selected cities can become national models of modern urban renewal.

We will remind you that during the year, Ukraine rose 14 positions in the Government AI Readiness Index 2025 global ranking and took 40th place among 195 countries.
