Russia supplied North Korea with more than a million barrels of oil in exchange for weapons and soldiers.

About this informs BBC Russia.

Since March 2024, Russia has sent more than 1 million barrels of oil to North Korea.

Over the past eight months, more than a dozen North Korean tankers have made 43 trips between a Russian oil terminal in the Far East and their ports. Satellite images of tankers show that these tankers went to Russia empty and returned loaded.

The first documented flight took place on March 7, 2024, seven months after the first reports of North Korean munitions being delivered to Russia. The last flight was recorded on November 5, when it was already known about the dispatch of North Korean troops to the Kursk region.

North Korea is under international sanctions for developing nuclear weapons. The country is prohibited from purchasing more than 500,000 barrels of oil per year. At the same time, 1 million barrels, or 56 thousand tons is a small volume for Russia, which, according to official data, produces almost ten times more in one day.
