October 20 is the All-Ukrainian Day of Fighting Breast Cancer in Ukraine. This day was established in Ukraine with the aim of intensifying activities to prevent the occurrence and spread of breast cancer, drawing society’s attention to this problem, in accordance with the Decree of the President of Ukraine “On the All-Ukrainian Day to Fight Breast Cancer” dated January 17, 2005 No. 42/2005.
International holidays on October 20, 2025
Every year on October 20, the world celebrates International Air Traffic Controller Day. The reason for the appearance of such a traditional date was the creation on October 20, 1961 in the capital of the Netherlands of the International Union of Air Traffic Controllers (IFATCA). Today, the federation represents more than 50,000 air traffic controllers in 133 countries. Although the organizational structure in the field of aviation is constantly being improved by implementing the achievements of technical progress, the control of flights remains in the hands of humans. The profession of an air traffic controller requires perfect knowledge and skills, special psychological training, which is extremely necessary for people with extreme responsibility for the safe and orderly movement of civil aircraft in the airspace.
Today is also the International Day of Cooks and Cooks. The holiday is quite young. It was launched in 2004 at the initiative of an association that supports culinary communities from different countries. Even then, the organization included about eight million representatives of the culinary professions.

Today, October 20, believers celebrate the day of memory of the holy great martyr Artemios. Saint Artemios was a prominent military figure and commander of the Roman Empire. During the reign of the emperors Constantine the Great and his sons, he held a high position – he was the military ruler of Egypt.
When Constantine the Great moved the capital to Constantinople, Artemiy received an honorable commission – to transport the relics of the holy apostles Andrew the First-Called, Luke and Timothy from Alexandria to the new capital. Artemiy gained respect among the faithful as a zealous Christian and defender of the Church.
After the death of Emperor Constantius, his relative Julian took power, who renounced Christianity and tried to restore paganism. He brutally persecuted Christians, especially the clergy. When Julian arrived in Antioch, he ordered two bishops to be brought to trial – Eugenius and Macarius, who were severely tortured. At that time, Artemios, being in Antioch, boldly appeared before the emperor, exposing his apostasy from Christ and calling on him to convert to the true faith. Such a frank statement infuriated Julian. For his bravery, Saint Artemios was stripped of all ranks, thrown into prison, and then subjected to cruel torture and stoned to death.
