The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, during the meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway Espen Bart Eide, which took place in Kyiv on January 12, 2026, thanked for the allocation of additional funding in the amount of 400 million dollars.

This is reported by the Office of the President.

Half of this amount, $200 million, will be immediately directed to the urgent needs of the energy sector, including the purchase of gas and the repair of damaged generation and distribution facilities. The rest of the funds will go to direct budget support to ensure social benefits, salaries for teachers and doctors, which is critically important in the difficult economic situation.

In addition to financial aid, the leaders discussed strengthening Ukrainian air defense through the PURL (Partnership for Ukraine’s Rapid Logistics) initiative, which allows European countries to purchase American weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Norway, which is one of the key partners in the production of NASAMS systems, has confirmed its readiness to continue providing Ukraine with interceptor missiles and invest in joint production of weapons. The President also noted Oslo’s leadership role in the “Coalition of the Willing” and the importance of the Paris Declaration signed on January 6, 2026, which lays the foundation for providing Ukraine with legally binding security guarantees after the end of active hostilities.

In total, for 2026, Norway has provided an unprecedented amount of aid to Ukraine in the amount of 8.3 billion dollars within the framework of the multi-year Nansen program. Minister Bart Eide emphasized that for Norway, Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression remains the number one priority, and energy aid is a way to help Ukrainians survive this winter. The parties also agreed on further coordination of diplomatic efforts to implement the Peace Formula and increase sanctions pressure on the Russian military-industrial complex.
