A NON-LEAGUE football clash has incredibly been postponed due to GOOSE DROPPINGS on the pitch.

Wembley FC’s visit to face Spelthorne Sports was called off before it could even begin after the referee deemed the playing conditions as “unsafe”.

But a brief statement released on Wembley FC’s X on Monday morning read: “GAME POSTPONED.

“Prior to kick off the referee has deemed the pitch at Spelthorne Sports unsafe to play due to large amounts of goose droppings on the pitch.”

Fans in the lower leagues are used to waterlogged pitches and delays due to referees being stuck in traffic, but a pitch covered in goose droppings is a far less familiar issue.

A number of quick-witted supporters hilariously reacted on social media.

One wrote: “Did he have a gander at the pitch first?”

While another added: “What a s*** situation”.

A third posted: “Have they cried fowl play?”

And a fourth joked: “I love this country so much”.

There has yet to be any update about the rescheduling of the fixture.

It’s not the first time that the lower leagues have thrown up unusual circumstances.

Earlier this month, Ipswich Town were forced to hold their half-time team talk on the TEAM BUS after plumbing issues during their Carabao Cup clash with League Two Bromley meant their players couldn’t use the toilet.

While, unbelievably, goose droppings has caused a different non-league clash to be postponed before.

Seaham Red Star FC’s game against West Allotment Celtic FC suffered the same unlikely fate last season.
