The 55-year-old politician holds the post of Bucharest Mayor / Collage UNIAN / SCRINTSIn the presidential election in Romania, a pro -European independent candidate Nikusor Dan wins.
According to the latest data from the Central Election Commission of the country, 99.49% of ballots have already been processed. Dan received 53.90% of the vote, and the far -right nationalist George Simion, who has already announced his “victory”, 46.10%. Dan published in the microblog X appeal to people:
“It was an unprecedented mobilization, and therefore the victory belongs to each of you. Each Romanian who came to the polls has made his voice heard and fought for what he believes, for the country he wants and in which he wants to live. From tomorrow we begin to rebuild Romania.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has already congratulated Dana on the victory, calling it historical. He emphasized that it is important for Ukraine to have a reliable partner in the face of Romania, because thanks to cooperation, both the countries themselves and Europe can be strengthened.

Nikusor Dan – BiographyDan was born on December 20, 1969 in the city of Fegerash, Brasovsky County. In 1987 and 1988 he won gold medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad. He received a degree in Mathematics Philosophy in école Normale supérieure in Paris. Upon his return to Romania, he founded a school of normal higher education in Bucharest and became an activist in the field of cultural heritage protection.
In 2015, he created a political platform “The Union of Salvation of Bucharest”, which later transformed into the Party “Union of Salvation of Romania”. In 2020 he was elected mayor of Bucharest, and in 2024 – re -elected to this position.
Unlike his opponent George Simion, Nikusher Dan consistently advocated Ukraine in the war against Russia. In April, he stated that this war was critical for Romania and Moldova’s security, emphasizing the need to continue Kiev’s military assistance.
In his election campaign, Dan emphasized the importance of strengthening ties with the European Union and NATO, as well as increasing defense costs to resist Russian influence in the region.
