New US sanctions “significantly undermine the financial basis of the Russian military machine” – Zelensky

“We are sincerely grateful for America’s leadership in holding Russia accountable. I am sure that these steps will significantly reduce Russia’s petrodollar revenues, and with them, its ability to continue aggression.””, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org

The sanctions introduced by the USA “significantly undermine the financial basis of the Russian war machine”, emphasized the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

“I am grateful to US President Biden, his administration and the entire American people for the new package of sanctions announced today against more than 400 entities connected to the Russian energy sector. The bipartisan support of the United States is really very important, and we feel it well,” Zelenskyy noted.

According to him, sanctions restrictions “significantly undermine the financial basis of the Russian war machine, because they disrupt the supply chain: key Russian manufacturers, insurance companies, service providers in the oil and gas industry, 184 tankers of the shadow fleet, logistics facilities and companies of third countries.”

“It is especially worth noting the pressure on companies such as Surgutnaftogaz – a key financial wallet for Putin himself (President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin – ed.). Such actions send a clear signal: criminals must pay for their crimes. The less income Russia receives from oil and other energy resources, the sooner peace will be restored. Energy resources should not be a weapon, as Russia does,” Zelensky emphasized.

Instead, according to him, “countries that respect international law can and should ensure a stable and reliable energy supply for the whole world.”

“We are sincerely grateful for America’s leadership in holding Russia accountable. I am sure that these steps will significantly reduce Russia’s petrodollar revenues, and with them its ability to continue aggression,” Zelenskyy emphasized.

Earlier, on January 10, the United States imposed sanctions on more than 30 Russian oil service companies. At the same time, the restrictions also affected the Serbian company, which is related to Gazprom Neft.
