“Anton Bondarenko was 26 years old”, — write: sport.ua
26-year-old Bondarenko worked as a fixer since February 2022 and was a “guide, translator and companion” for French reporters. Later, he decided to join the army and died on the front line defending Ukraine.
Anton Bondarenko had the call sign Banderas and was the commander of the 1st department of the 1st platoon of operational assignment and acting chief sergeant of the 10th company of the 4th battalion of the 13th brigade of operational assignment “Charter” of the National Guard of Ukraine.
On September 15, 2025, he went missing while performing a combat mission in the Kharkiv direction. The other day, a DNA test confirmed that Anton had died.
Bohdana Sakhno, the director of the All-Ukrainian Educational and Scientific Center for Shevchenko Studies of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, where Bondarenko studied, wrote about this on her Facebook page.
“Anton was never afraid of death, he was afraid of living a life without dignity. But Anton is dignity itself and life itself. “Love” and “duty” are verbs for him. Effective in everything, genuine in everything, brave and sincere in every deed. An intellectual with a Warrior’s heart. A young man with a charming, charming smile,” Bohdana Sakhno shared.
Tetyana Kachanovska, associate professor of the Department of Theory and Practice of Translation from Romance Languages named after Mykola Zerov, reported that the soldier died as a result of a Russian drone attack.
“It turned out that Anton Bondarenko, a former student of our department, and my former student, a restless and passionate seeker of meaning, who was a fixer and translator for foreign media from the beginning of the full-scale invasion, and later went to the front, was killed by an enemy drone. Bright memory and eternal honor to the Hero!” Kachanovska wrote.
We will remind that the famous tennis coach Kyrylo Vasylchyshyn died earlier in the war with the Katsaps.
