Netflix said on Tuesday that its ad reach reached 70 million monthly active users worldwide, nearly double the number from six months ago.

About this informs Reuters.

Netflix’s subscription policy includes cheaper subscriptions that include ads and more expensive subscriptions that don’t. An ad-supported subscription costs $6.99 per month in the US, while the cheapest ad-free subscription costs $15.49 per month.

The increase in the number of users with advertising is explained by the search for cheaper subscription options.

Advertised Netflix users account for more than half of all new Netflix subscriptions in regions where it is available.

In May, the number of active users in the world under the Qi tariff plan reached 40 million every month.

Some analysts have previously suggested that Netflix raise the prices of its ad-free options to nudge customers up to the level with ads, as it typically generates more revenue per user.

Netflix did not provide details on the financials of the ad-supported plan and does not expect it to be the main driver of growth until 2026. Pricing for this tier remains unchanged since its launch in late 2022.

The company also said that Canada has become the first country to run exclusively on Netflix’s ad technology. The company intends to roll out this technology worldwide during 2025.
