“Near zero and a little sleet.” The forecaster warned about a significant drop in temperature and the beginning of the cold phase of autumn

Ukrainians are in for a change in the weather – in a few days, the northern coolness will arrive in the country, and even frosts are expected.

Nataliya Ptuha, forecaster of the Ukrhydrometeorological Center, told NV about this.

“Currently and until Wednesday, we have inactive atmospheric fronts that will cause light autumn rains,” the expert noted. This applies to the western regions, and then to the northern and partly eastern regions. And in the highlands of the Carpathians, in general, during the next day, there will be close to zero and a little wet snow.

On Thursday, October 17, an anticyclone from the north-west will already displace rain from Ukraine, and in most regions the weather without precipitation will prevail, the forecaster explains. “At the same time, our wind direction is changing: from the west to the north, and on October 16-17 to the northeast, and a cooler air mass will arrive,” Ptuha warned.

So, on the night of October 16, the rains will stop in the western regions and it will be dry, but instead the anticyclone will bring frost on the soil surface, which will spread to other regions on October 17-18. Therefore, on these nights in the western, northern and even most central regions, frosts are possible both on the surface of the soil and in the air, the expert notes.

The air temperature in the dark hours of the day will drop significantly: from the current nighttime +3…+8 to 0…-5 degrees. In Kyiv On October 17-18, there will be frosts only on the ground, and in the region, possibly in the air as well.

“It will be really cold nights – it will be clear, without clouds, and the heat that has accumulated during the day in the surface layer of the atmosphere will be released immediately,” Ptuha explained the synoptic processes.

Negative temperature values ​​will not reach the southeast – there at night it will be within the range of +2…+8.

During the week, daytime temperatures across the country will be around +7…+13, the only thing is that it will be sunnier from Wednesday. “But it will still be the sun that shines, but does not warm,” the expert emphasizes.

It is somewhat warmer in the south and east – within +12…+16 degrees, except in Odesa, frosts are possible, but only on the surface of the soil.

At the end of the week, a little warmth will return, and the night frosts will go away. Since the weather will continue to be determined by the high pressure field, there will also be little precipitation at the turn of the week.

“Temperature indicators will rise a little, because the air mass will change somewhat, it will not be so cold,” says the expert. This slight warming from October 20 will be delayed for at least 4 days: during the day it will be up to +13…+15 degrees across the country.

Meanwhile, Kharkiv Oblast continues to suffer from excessively dry weather, the forecaster draws attention. While the rains have mostly passed in Ukraine, the drought continues in this eastern region, which delays the sowing of winter agricultural crops.
