The representative of Ukraine was injured on the eve of the world championships – he injured his fingers during training, so he was forced to limit the number of shells to perform at the World Championship, deciding to compete only in the pole vault.
Nazar took third place in the qualification with a score of 14.316 points and was able to improve it during the finals, which took place on October 25. A score of 14.466 was obtained for the first jump, and 14.500 for the second. The final result of Chepurnyi was 14.483 points – the Ukrainian won bronze and defended the medal of the last world championship.
The world champion was Carlos Yulo from the Philippines with a final score of 14.866. In the fight for the first place, he was ahead of Artur Davtyan (Armenia) by 0.033 points (14.833).
