The mission will take place against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region following Russia’s violations of NATO airspace.
According to the interlocutors, Turkey was already ready to deploy its fighter jets in Romania from December 2026 to March 2027, but NATO’s request provides for the postponement of the dates.
At this moment, Turkey has not given an official response to NATO’s request, and the decision to participate in the mission has not yet been made. Turkish fighter jets last participated in a similar mission in early 2025.
We will remind:
- On December 4, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey was summoned representatives of the embassies of Ukraine and Russia, to express concern over a series of attacks on Russian “shadow fleet” vessels in the Black Sea.
- On December 15, it was reported that Turkish fighters shot down an “uncontrolled” dronewhich flew from the Black Sea. Turkey did not disclose who exactly owned the drone.
