As part of the criminal proceedings regarding coal purchases for Centerenergo PJSC, more than UAH 114 million in advance funds were returned to the state budget. One of the suppliers voluntarily reimbursed UAH 114.2 million received under the contract without confirming the actual supply of coal. The refund was provided by the prosecutors of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The investigation into the fact of possible misappropriation of budget funds in a particularly large amount, allocated for the purchase of coal for thermal power plants, according to the SBU materials, was started on October 17, 2025 under Part 5 of Art. 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Law enforcement officers are verifying the facts according to which in 2024 PJSC “Centrenergo” concluded contracts with several private companies for the supply of coal for a total amount of over UAH 380 million. The terms of the contracts provided for payment after the actual delivery of the products, however, according to the investigation, the funds were transferred to the suppliers in advance, while a significant part of the coal was not actually delivered.
“As a result of measures taken by prosecutors, one of the suppliers voluntarily returned UAH 114.2 million received under the contract, but not confirmed by the actual supply of coal. Separately, within the framework of the same criminal proceedings, contracts with two more suppliers, to whom advance payment was transferred in the amount of more than UAH 260 million, are being checked. According to preliminary data, the obligations under the contract have not been fulfilled in full,” the message reads.
Currently, the pre-trial investigation is ongoing. All circumstances of possible misappropriation of funds, as well as the circle of officials involved in violations during coal purchases, are established.
The state will pay funds for preventive medical examination from the age of 40.
