“This decision was well thought out and conscious, we had time to discuss it with the family and accept it. Ukraine has always meant a lot to me, all my friends knew that this is the country where my family comes from. And although I myself was born and grew up in Great Britain, in England, our family speaks Ukrainian. My mother taught me and my brother the Ukrainian language, and we were very pleased when Ukraine achieved success in football, in song contests, and in culture.
More than a year ago, my mother received a call from the Ukrainian Football Association, where they informed me that they were following my progress and offered me to play for the youth national team of Ukraine.
Of course, I was very happy and so was everyone in the family! We gratefully accepted this offer and kept in constant contact. I played, knowing that my family was watching me. The process of resolving all issues of documents, opportunities for me to play took a certain amount of time. But we personally, me and my family, accepted this decision with joy,” said Zakhar.
Zakhar Baumann has already made his debut for the youth national team of Ukraine. The midfielder entered the field at the end of the match against Kazakhstan (1:2).
