As you know, in the event of a complete cessation of Russian gas supplies to the unrecognized Transnistria from January 1, 2025, Moldova can expect a shortage of electricity, as supplies from the DRES located there will stop. Borosan said that thanks to the support of the EU, the European Network of Electricity Transmission System Operators (ENTSO-E) and electricity transport operators of Romania, Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary, it was possible to find a mechanism to increase the possibility of importing electricity.Advertisement: The solution is to take unused capacity of the joint quota of Moldova and Ukraine for importing electricity from the EU, as well as to use the power transmission lines between Moldova and Romania with a voltage of 110 kW. Through them, according to Borosan, Moldova can transport more than 100 MW of electricity. Moldova and Ukraine have a joint quota for importing electricity from the EU – 2100 MW, of which 315 MW goes to Moldova and the rest to Ukraine. This quota is for a 400 kW power line that passes through Isaccia in Romania, Odesa Region in Ukraine, and then to Vulcanesti. From there, European electricity is transported to Transnistria, and then to the right bank of the Dniester in Moldova. In the updated plan presented by Borosan, the share of electricity from the EU is already indicated in the amount of 400 MW, of which 200 MW fall on direct contracts with the Romanian Nuclearelectrica and Petrom, and another 200 MW on the Romanian exchange OPCOM. Under such a scenario, according to the forecasts of the Ministry of Energy, the shortage of electricity will amount to about 60 MW during peak hours.
