The study shows that almost 99 percent of the world’s population can suffer in the case of a large -scale nuclear war between the US and Russia.

Other attacks around the world can lead to catastrophic events – completely turning over the structure of society. Such a terrible scenario was obtained by scientists who made modeling of the consequences of war, writes The Sun.

A new research conducted by the University of Pennsylvania modeled the effects of nuclear winter. The study has shown that a large -scale global nuclear war can lead to an atmosphere of 165 million tons of ash.

This can be a catalyst for damage to the protective layer of the atmosphere – the ozone layer. As well as block sunlight that reaches the surface of the Earth. And this, in turn, can affect the world food production and lead to the starvation of millions of people – up to 99 percent of the US, Russia, and China and Europe.

Simulation showed that the nuclear war in this case will take almost ten years, causing mass hunger for those who would survive after devastating bombardment. UV-B radiation will reach the peak six to eight years after the nuclear war, and the global temperature will fall sharply, stopping almost all agricultural activities.

Scientists have used the world of corn as an object for testing. It turned out that the war can lead to 80% of the decline of annual corn yield.

Plant and meteorologist at Pennsylvania University, Junin Shi, explained that scientists modeled the production of corn in 38 572 places in six nuclear war scenarios. The scenarios were distinguished by the severity of emissions. But in all cases, a fiery ball of atomic explosions form nitric oxides in the stratosphere. And nitric oxide and bomb heating can quickly destroy the ozone layer, increasing the level of ultraviolet radiation on the Earth’s surface. This will damage the plant tissues and limit the global production of food.

Simulation shows that the restoration of worldwide corn after nuclear winter can take from 7 to 12 years.

What can be a nuclear warRecall that three possible scenarios of nuclear war provide a slight conflict with the launch of a limited number of shells. In this case, the effects on the environment may be possible. At the same time, when several hundred shells are launched on both sides, the consequences can be catastrophic, and the victims will be millions and no one will be able to help them.
