“Mirages” fly – what will be done: about Miraage 2000 in Ukraine

Last October Army published material on the possibilities of the French multi-purpose 4th generation jet fighter. We suggest today to remember.

F-16 Fighting Falcon is the most famous Western fighter in Ukraine today. However, it is not the only one who is referred to during a dialogue with partner countries.

The list of air hunters also includes Dassault Miraage 2000 – a multi -purpose fourth generation. Developed in the 1970s by Dassault Aviation, it became the main combat aircraft of the Air Force of France in the late XX-early XXI century.

As the French like to remind, their miage has become the only plane in the world that has confirmed the F-16 invincible in the Air Battle. The Armyinform has already wrote about this unique historical battle.

Back in June 2024, the transfer of Dassault Mirage 2000 fighter jets was announced by French President Emmanuel Macron.

Later, the French Minister of Defense Sebastian Lecorton also stated this, reporting the time of transfer of fighters – in the first quarter of 2025.

The head of the French defense department did not specify the number and modification of aircraft, but noted that the transferred fighters will be equipped with new technical means for air-and-electronic fighting.

However, in a short post of French Defense Minister, however, there is information that suggests that the French Miraage 2000 will perform in the Russian Federation’s aggression against Ukraine.

Used by the head of the French defense department of the phrase “Combat Air-Sol” suggests that the main task of multi-purpose Miraage 2000 fighters will be to strike for land purposes.

In view of the noted mention of new technical equipment, it is also possible to assume that the modification of the fighter-bomber will be transferred to Ukraine.

Earlier, the media on the basis of the statement of French President Emmanuel Macron was about Miraage 2000-5-a modernized export version of the aircraft. It is also possible that, in addition to it, Ukraine will receive a shock fighter-bomber of Miraage 2000D modification, for which striking strikes for land purposes are a primary purpose.

Miage-2000D Considering these assumptions, it is worth looking more closely at which ammunition and the Frenchman in the Ukrainian sky will be able to beat Russian invaders on Ukrainian and Russian land.

The use of Miraage 2000 as a plane of close aerial support, that is, as a stormtrooper directly above the battlefield, should be immediately rejected because of the high saturation of the hostilities theater by means of hostile air defense (air defense), in particular the portable anti-aircraft missile complexes (MAG).

For the same reasons, the possibility of using Miraage 2000 to reset free fall bombs should be excluded. After all, in the event of a aircraft directly above the line of combat collision or, moreover, in the enemy rear at any depth, it will be a priority purpose for the defeat, which will be very difficult to avoid.

Therefore, the air -surface – the surface and controlled (correlated) planering bombs are suitable for active use. The same applies to the F-16 Fighting Falcon, so all the considerations expressed on “Falcon”, are also quite good for “mirage”.

However, with an important correction for which ammunition will be able to use Miraage 2000 to strike for land purposes. As for the F-16, as of today, it may be primarily about the high-precision platform controlles of medium-range AGM-154 JSOW.

In the case of Miraage 2000, it is unknown what kind of “full -time” ammunition can be obtained by Ukraine or under the use of which missiles “Air – Earth” or Aviation Bombs can be completed.

Most likely, the aircraft can be “armed” by the Winged SCalp-EG missiles and the planning bombs of Hammer, which is already used by Ukrainian military aviation.

However, given the high compatibility of weapons, military equipment and ammunition of NATO Member States, there may also be other interesting options.
