Ukraine is ready to provide grain to Syria as part of humanitarian aid, said on December 13 the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heorhiy Tykhi.

According to him, Ukraine is ready to send humanitarian aid within the framework of the Grain from Ukraine program, which is coordinated with the UN World Food Program.

“We understand how difficult the current situation is for ordinary Syrians and are ready to extend a helping hand. We sincerely wish the Syrian people stability and a normal life, because Ukrainians really understand how valuable these things are,” Tykhy said.

Syrian rebels said early in the morning of December 8 that they had taken control of the capital Damascus after a lightning offensive that took place in recent days and quickly advanced across the country. Damascus is “now free from Assad,” the rebels said in a statement on social media.

President Bashar al-Assad’s whereabouts were initially unknown, although the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that Assad had flown out of Damascus in the early morning hours of December 8.
