The head of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine Metropolitan Epiphanius expressed his sincere sympathy about the death of Pope Francis.
He reported this in the post on his Facebook page.
Epiphanius noted that he received the news of Francis from life with sadness. “As the head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis devoted his life to serving God, the spread of Christian faith and the realization of numerous humanitarian initiatives,” the Metropolitan wrote.
Epiphanius paid special attention to the fact that during their personal meetings, Francis repeatedly expressed deep concern for the fate of Ukrainians suffering from Russian aggression. He also praised the Pope’s efforts to liberate Ukrainian prisoners of war and return Ukrainian children deported by Russian authorities.
“The Pope sought to help Ukraine achieve a just and sustained peace, always calling for prayer for it,” the PSU Head added.
Epiphanius also recalled that in his Easter message, Francis again mentioned “Ukraine -torn Ukraine”, expressing hope for establishing a just and sustained peace. The Metropolitan of the PCU expressed their condolences to all Catholics and bishops of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, who lost their spiritual leader.
